Bielefeld in the 1950s and 60s: Reconstruction, the economic miracle, and the World Cup shaped our 1950s; automobiles, recruitment agreements for "guest workers," and the 1968 student movement defined the following decade. New transportation concepts gave rise to a car-friendly city and pedestrian zones – an airport project, however, failed. The cycling track and the Jahnplatz tunnel were inaugurated, the university and the art gallery opened, and construction began on the Telekom high-rise. All of this was captured by professional photographers: Eduard Heidmann, Ruth Lindewirth, Rudolf Möller, Hans Niessen, Günter Rudolf, and Otto Sudmann.
